Triple X System
Chapter 433: Sea Never Dies
The grand courtyard of the upper sanctuary hung in an agonizing, fragile silence as Elara stared across the smooth stone floor at the woman who had birthed her.
"Mother..." Elara breathed out, her voice barely carrying through the quiet chamber. Her fingers clutched the hilts of her twin water-daggers so tightly her knuckles turned white.
The woman standing by the reflecting pool did not wear the traditional robes of the merfolk sovereign. She wore an immaculate, layered gown of midnight blue silk and white velvet, adorned with gilded epaulets and a pristine silver brooch shaped like a three-leaf clover. Her long, pale blue hair drifted regally around her shoulders, completely untamed by the water.
"I told you never to return to these depths, Elara," Grand Duchess Selena said softly. Her deep blue eyes held no malice, only a cold, noble detachment that cut deeper than any blade. "You always possessed a stubborn heart. A tragic flaw for a girl born of high blood."
"Why?" Elara’s voice cracked, tears welling in her eyes despite her fierce attempt to hold them back. "You... you are a Grand Duchess of the Clover Council? All these years... you abandoned our people—you abandoned me—to sit among the very nobles who are burning our home to ash?!"
Selena sighed, a small, sad sound that rippled across the quiet pool. "I did not abandon you, child. I elevated myself to a position where I could dictate the fate of domains. The ocean was always destined to fall to the Council’s expansion. The tide of history cannot be stopped by tridents and childish hopes. I came here today to ensure your name was removed from the purging registers."
Selena took a step forward, extending a gloved hand toward her daughter. "Come with me, Elara. Renounce these sub-human beasts and the abyssal trash you travel with. As a Grand Duchess, my authority can grant you a fresh life in the spire courts above."
Elara looked at her mother’s outstretched hand, then back to the quiet water where the distant, muffled echoes of explosions and dying screams filtered up from the lower trench. She drew her daggers, stepping back into a low, defensive stance.
"My home is down there," Elara said, her voice turning as sharp and hard as glacier ice. "My friends are down there. If you stand with the Council, then you aren’t my mother anymore. You’re just another invader."
Selena’s hand slowly lowered. A look of quiet, unyielding disappointment settled over her striking features. "A pity. You always inherited your father’s foolish sentimentality."
Before either of them could make another move, a violent shockwave shattered the upper dome of the sanctuary!
*BOOM!*
Massive slabs of sea-stone rained down into the courtyard, and the calm atmosphere was instantly devoured by a terrifying, suffocating pressure. A golden, high-density mana barrier split open the ceiling, forcing Elara to dive behind a thick stone pillar to avoid being crushed by the atmospheric force.
Selena didn’t flinch. She simply raised a subtle light shield around herself, stepping back as six figures descended slowly through the destroyed ceiling, floating gracefully above the courtyard like gods descending upon a doomed world.
These were not the low-level vanguard mages, nor were they the specialized assassins of The Root.
These were the **Grand Archmages**—the absolute peak of the Clover Council’s military might, second only to the Grand Archons themselves. Each of them commanded armies, altered geographical landscapes with single incantations, and carried the weight of entire war campaigns on their shoulders.
At their front floated **Archmage Vane**, a tall, gaunt man with long silver hair and robes of heavy crimson silk that billowed around him despite being underwater. Beside him was **Archmage Solon**, a broad, bearded giant of a man wielding a massive staff topped with an orb of condensed, boiling plasma. To their left stood the twin Archmages, **Ignis** and **Caelum**, who controlled dual-elemental arrays of white-hot solar light and atmospheric pressure. Completing the hexad were **Archmage Zephyr**, a woman wrapped in swirling currents of razor-sharp wind-mana, and **Archmage Moros**, an elder whose dark grey robes were covered in forbidden rune-seals.
"Ah, Grand Duchess Selena," Archmage Vane spoke, his voice dry and raspy like rubbing sandpaper together. "We apologize for interrupting your family reunion. But the Fifth Seat’s patience grows thin. The core of this domain remains active."
Selena inclined her head slightly toward Vane, her expression unreadable. "You are within your rights, Archmage Vane. Proceed with the suppression. But remember our arrangement regarding the sanctuary archives."
"Of course," Vane replied smoothly, his glowing red eyes turning away from Selena to look toward the far side of the courtyard. "Assuming the sovereign gives us access without further bloodshed."
From the shadowy alcove on the opposite side of the grand hall, a single figure walked out onto the stone floor.
Queen Seraphina stood tall, her obsidian-and-pearl trident resting lightly in her right hand. Her crown of solid white coral gleamed under the invading golden light of the Archmages’ presence. Her face was pale, lined with exhaustion from maintaining the domain’s outer barriers for hours, but her gaze was absolute, unyielding, and brimming with the ancient authority of the deep sea.
"You speak of access to my domain as if you already own it, surface rats," Seraphina said, her voice resounding with a heavy, oceanic bass that caused the stone pillars to vibrate.
"We do own it, Sovereign," Archmage Solon boomed, raising his plasma staff. "Your warriors are dead or dying in the lower trenches. Your vanguard lines have collapsed. Your domain is surrounded on all six axes by our light-fleet. Surrender the oceanic core, and we shall grant your surviving sub-humans a quick, painless execution."
Seraphina did not answer with words. She slammed the butt of her trident onto the stone floor!
*THOOM!*
The water in the grand courtyard instantly responded, turning into a crushing, localized maelstrom. Eight massive water dragons, each fifty feet long and composed of high-density, pressurized black sea water, erupted from the floor pools, roaring as they coiled around the six Archmages!
"Form the Hexagon Seal!" Vane commanded calmly, not a single trace of panic in his dry voice.
The six Grand Archmages moved in perfect, rehearsed synchronization. They spread out into a wide hexagonal formation, raising their staves and hands simultaneously.
**"Grand Array: Solar Dome of the Sixth Spire!"**
A blinding, multi-layered geometric magic circle—over two hundred yards wide—materialized directly above Seraphina’s head. Thousands of golden light runes cascaded down like a shimmering curtain, creating an impenetrable field of thermal magic that instantly vaporized Seraphina’s water dragons into massive clouds of scalding steam!
*HISSSSS!*
The steam filled the entire courtyard, blinding anyone without high-level mana perception.
Through the dense white cloud, Archmage Zephyr flicked her wrist. **"Gale Spear: Vacuum Tear!"**
A invisible, hyper-pressurized spear of compressed wind cut through the steam, aiming directly for Seraphina’s heart.
Seraphina spun her trident, creating a spinning vortex of heavy water that caught the wind spear and redirected it into the stone floor, blowing a thirty-foot crater into the sea-stone. But before she could recover her posture, Archmages Ignis and Caelum chanted in unison, dropping twin meteors of condensed, white-hot solar energy directly onto her location!
*BOOM! BOOM!*
The explosions rocked the entire upper sanctuary. The stone floor cracked wide open, revealing the dark, endless abyss of the lower trench below.
Seraphina was hurled back, her pearl armor cracking along her chest plate. She landed on one knee, blood trickling from her lips, but she immediately thrust her trident upward, summoning a localized tidal surge that slammed Archmage Solon into a stone column before his plasma staff could discharge its full power.
"Impressive," Solon grunted, wiping a smear of dust from his face as he pushed himself out of the ruined pillar. "Even with her core drained from maintaining the trench barriers, her raw manipulation speed exceeds our single-caster output."
"Then do not fight her as single casters," Vane said coldly, his silver hair floating as his crimson robes flared with terrifying mana. "We are the six pillars of the Archmage Assembly. We do not engage in duels. We execute."
"Moros! Lock her movements!" Vane ordered.
Archmage Moros stepped forward, slamming his palm onto the air itself. **"Forbidden Art: Ninefold Chains of the Shadowless Light!"**
Nine thick, golden chains forged from pure, solidified light erupted from the stone floor around Seraphina. They moved like living snakes, wrapping tightly around her ankles, wrists, torso, and neck, pinning her securely to the center of the ruined courtyard. The light magic burned her pale skin on contact, hissing loudly as it negated her ability to draw water-mana from the ambient environment.
"Unhand her!" Elara screamed from her hiding spot behind the pillar. Unable to watch her queen be tortured, she leaped out, throwing both her water-daggers toward Archmage Moros’s exposed back!
Before the daggers could travel ten feet, Grand Duchess Selena casually raised a single finger. A subtle, transparent kinetic force-field deflected the daggers into the wall, pinning Elara against the stone pillar with an invisible, suffocating weight.
"Stay down, Elara," Selena said, not even looking back at her daughter. "This level of warfare will erase your very soul if you step into its path."
"Mother, please! Stop them!" Elara sobbed, struggling uselessly against the kinetic pressure holding her. "She’s the queen! She protected us!"
"She protected an illusion," Selena replied coldly.
In the center of the courtyard, Seraphina pulled against the light chains, her muscles straining, her dark eyes flashing with pure, regal fury. "You think... a few light trinkets... can chain the sea?!"
She opened her mouth, uttering an ancient, gutteral incantation in the long-forgotten language of the First Merfolk. Her trident began to glow with a deep, eerie pitch-black light—the raw, unrefined pressure of the abyssal depths!
The temperature in the courtyard plummeted to absolute zero. The water surrounding the six Archmages froze instantly into black ice, attempting to crush their protective barriers under thousands of pounds of permafrost pressure!
"She’s tapping into the Abyssal Core!" Archmage Vane’s eyes widened slightly, a rare hint of caution entering his dry voice. "Do not let her complete the chant! All units, combined suppression!"
Archmages Solon, Zephyr, Ignis, Caelum, and Vane all stepped forward, crossing their staves and focusing their vast, terrifying mana pools into a single point above Seraphina’s trapped form.
**"Archmage Combination: Judgment of the Seven Spires!"**
A massive, golden spear of light—fifty feet thick and humming with enough destructive force to level an entire mountain range—condensed in the high ceiling of the courtyard. The pressure alone shattered every remaining pillar in the hall, turning the ancient sea-stone into fine powder.
Seraphina looked up at the descending spear of light. She knew she couldn’t dodge while locked in Moros’s chains. She knew her abyssal chant wasn’t fully formed. Yet, she smiled—a small, proud, defying smile that mocked the six grand casters hovering above her.
"The sea..." Seraphina whispered, her voice echoing through the falling debris, "...never dies."
*BOOM!*
The massive spear of light slammed down directly onto Seraphina, swallowing the center of the courtyard in a blinding, catastrophic sun of white-hot destruction.
The shockwave tore through the upper sanctuary, collapsing the ceiling entirely and sending millions of tons of stone, water, and debris tumbling down into the dark, endless abyss below.
