Chapter 468: The Bone Church (1)

The towering stone archway of Sector Two marked a stark, grim boundary. As the group stepped past its jagged thresholds, the howling wind of the Dead Ravine instantly died, replaced by a suffocating, echoing silence.

Before them stretched a massive, subterranean cavern that spanned miles, illuminated only by a ghostly, violet phosphorescence creeping through fissures in the obsidian ground. Resting in the center of this endless cavern was a cathedral so gargantuan it defied architecture—the **Bone Church**.

Kyle stopped at the edge of the overlook, his slitted dark eyes narrowing as he took in the sprawling structure.

It was constructed entirely from the bleached, interlocking skeletons of ancient leviathans, colossal Void beasts, and thousands of fallen warriors from bygone eras. Ribcages formed soaring gothic arches; giant, hollowed-out dragon skulls served as guard towers; and millions of pulverized bone fragments had been packed together to form towering spires that pierced the cavern ceiling.

"This place..." Yua murmured, her crimson eyes scanning the outer ramparts with a rare flick of genuine surprise. "It’s huge. It looks like a town on its own."

"It isn’t just a church," Kyle said, his voice dropping into a low, icy register. "It’s a replica."

Falcon glanced at him, her dark brown tails twitching restlessly in the stagnant air. "A replica of what?"

"Back on the Kraken realm," Kyle explained, his knuckles popping as he flexed his left hand, feeling the phantom burn of old scars. "The Void Spire had a forward citadel called the Ossuary Fortress. The layout, the subterranean mana-conduits, the defensive kill-zones... this bone cathedral was built using the exact same dark blueprints. Vladimir designed the original Ossuary to harvest spatial cores and drain blood essences in bulk."

’Scanning the structural interior,’ Snow’s analytical voice resonated inside Kyle’s mind. ’He is correct, Kyle. The architectural framework mirrors the Kraken stronghold by over eighty-two percent. However, because this structure is fused with the Blood Moon Clan’s blood-rot arrays, the entire building operates as a living, parasitic organism. There are three main defensive rings before the central altar.’

"Three rings," Kyle muttered aloud to the group. "Which means we aren’t clearing this in one swift sweep. This place is packed with heavy infantry, soul-binding chambers, and automated bone constructs."

Seraphina stepped forward, holding her azure ocean trident at the ready. "If it functions like a fortress, they must have a central energy core powering the defensive barriers blocking the pass to Sector Three."

"Exactly," Kyle said. "We destroy the three core nexus chambers within the Bone Church. Once those drop, the path through the mountain opens up."

"Then let’s stop standing around admiring the decor," Yua grinned, her pale fingers curving into lethal claws as dark red mana crackled around her arms. "I’m itching to crack some skeletons."

They descended into the outer ring of the Bone Church, entering through a massive gateway framed by the jawbones of a long-extinct subterranean leviathan.

The interior was vast, dark, and frigid. High above, chandelier-like structures made of polished spinal columns hung from the vaulted ceilings, holding cages filled with flickering, violet souls. The air smelled of burnt incense, cold marrow, and heavy copper.

They hadn’t walked fifty yards down the wide, polished bone corridor before the cathedral itself seemed to awaken.

*Clack. Clack. Clack.*

The sound echoed from every corner—a rhythmic, terrifying chorus of bone grinding against bone. From the shadows of the high archways and side alcoves, hundreds of figures stepped out into the light.

They were not mindless, fragile skeletons. These were **Ossuary Executioners**—seven-foot-tall bone constructs forged from dark iron and reinforced leviathan ribs, wearing tarnished red armor plates. In their hands, they wielded heavy, two-handed bone broadswords that hummed with dark blood magic. Beside them stood high-tier Blood Moon cultists, clad in long crimson robes, holding staff-weapons topped with glowing blood orbs.

"Intruders!" a high cultist rasped, his voice sounding like dry leaves scraping over stone. "The blood of the King’s pets walks among us! Offer their flesh to the Blood Moon!"

"You talk too much," Yua barked.

She blurred.

In a fraction of a second, Yua re-appeared directly in front of the high cultist. Her crimson claw slash tore through the air, leaving five glowing red trails that shredded the cultist’s staff and torso into ribbons before he could even cast a shielding ward.

"Defensive formation!" Falcon yelled, leaping into the air as her four dark brown tails ignited with fierce, emerald-green poison fire.

She spun in mid-air, sweeping her tails downward to release a ring of green poison flames that slammed into the frontline of Ossuary Executioners. The green fire didn’t just burn; it acted as a violent chemical corrosive, instantly dissolving the marrow binding the bone constructs together. Dozens of executioners collapsed into piles of smoking, melted dust before they could swing their heavy broadswords.

However, the sheer density of the Bone Church was staggering. As fast as Falcon and Yua cleared the corridor, dozens more executioners poured out from hidden passages in the walls.

"Kyle! Up top!" Seraphina called out.

High on the arched balconies overlooking the corridor, blood-archers were pulling back heavy bone bows, aiming glowing red blood-arrows straight at the group.

Seraphina slammed the base of her trident onto the bone floor. "Ocean Domain: Pressurized Cascade!"

A massive torrent of clear, roaring sea water burst upward from her trident, spiraling around the balcony arches like a raging hydro-cannon. The force of the water crushed the bone archers against the stone walls, sweeping their shattered remains off the high ledges.

Kyle moved like a shadow through the center of the chaos. His dark coat whipped around his legs as he drew his black blade, his slitted eyes calculating every movement, every line of attack.

An Executioner lunged at him from the left, swinging its broadsword in a lethal horizontal arc. Kyle didn’t even look. He ducked beneath the blade, pivoted on his right heel, and drove his shadow-infused hand straight into the construct’s chest cavity. His dark gauntlet flared with pitch-black demon fire, incinerating the construct’s soul-core from the inside out.

He kicked the crumbling body aside and looked down the long, winding hallway that led deeper into the cathedral’s first inner sector—the **Catacombs of the Devoured**.

"This outer guard unit is just the frontline fodder," Kyle said calmly, flinging black ash off his blade. "They’re trying to stall us so the cultists in the central sanctum can raise the heavy sector barriers."

"Then we don’t give them time to react," Falcon said, landing softly beside him, her brown skin glistening with light sweat, her green poison fire still crackling along her claws. "I can track the main mana-line feeding the first barrier. It runs right beneath these catacombs."

"Lead the way," Kyle ordered.

They pushed deep into the Catacombs of the Devoured—a maze-like network of narrow, subterranean tunnels carved beneath the main cathedral floor. The walls here were lined with thousands of shallow stone niches, each holding a preserved, mummified corpse wrapped in blood-soaked bandages.

The atmosphere in the catacombs was significantly heavier than the upper floor. The blood-rot in the air was so dense that Seraphina had to maintain a continuous, thin veil of pressurized water around their boots to keep the acidic mist from eating through their armor.

"Keep your guards up," Kyle warned, his dark slitted eyes shifting left and right as they navigated the tight, damp corridors. "The Kraken fortress used spatial illusion traps in sectors like this. If you step on the wrong rune, the hall twists and splits the team."

"Snow," Kyle mentally called out. "Are we on the right path?"

’Confirmed, Kyle,’ Snow replied instantly. ’The primary energy core for the Outer Ring is located three hundred yards ahead, inside the Vault of Marrow. However, I am picking up multiple high-density mana signatures waiting inside that vault. They are not constructs.’

"What are they?" Kyle asked.

’Blood-grafted elites,’ Snow revealed. ’Subterranean warriors who have voluntarily fused their flesh with Void chimera marrow. They possess extreme physical regeneration and spatial suppression capabilities.’

Kyle paused at a junction, holding up his hand to stop the team.

Ahead of them, the narrow catacomb opened up into a massive, circular chamber constructed like a hollowed-out skull. In the center of the room floated a giant, pulsing sphere of dark red blood-crystal, suspended over a pit of boiling marrow. Thick, nerve-like red cables extended from the crystal, running through the ceiling to power the heavy bone gates blocking the pass to the next sector.

Guarding the pulsing blood-crystal were four massive figures. They stood nearly nine feet tall, their bodies grotesque amalgams of dark blue skin, chitinous Void armor, and bone blades protruding directly from their forearms. Their eyes glowed with an unholy, mindless hunger.

"Blood-grafted elites," Yua murmured, her lips curling into a wicked smile. "Now *those* look like they can take a punch."

"They have spatial suppression arrays built into their armor," Kyle warned, eyeing the rune-carvings glowing along the elites’ shoulders. "Standard spatial leaps won’t work inside that room. We have to take them down using pure elemental force and physical speed."

"Fine by me," Falcon said, cracking her neck as her four dark tails flared with brilliant green poison flames. "I’ll take the two on the left. My green fire will melt their bone blades before they can swing."

"I’ll handle the right," Seraphina said, raising her ocean trident as pure, high-pressure water gathered around the sharp metal prongs.

"I’ve got the blood-crystal," Kyle said, his dark gauntlet igniting with pitch-black demon fire. "Yua, keep their commander busy."

In the center of the chamber, the largest of the four elites—the commander—slowly turned its giant, bone-visored head toward the entrance. It let out a deep, guttural roar that caused dust to rain down from the ribcage ceiling, raising two massive, six-foot-long bone cleavers.

"Intruders of the Blood Moon..." the commander bellowed, its voice shaking the very foundation of the catacombs. "You enter the sacred hall of Vladimir’s design! Your bones will serve as the foundation for the next spire!"

Kyle didn’t bother responding. He lowered his stance, shifted his weight to his back foot, and launched himself forward into the Vault of Marrow.

The battle for the first core of the Bone Church had officially begun.
