Chapter 289: Chapter 289: Insane Innuendo

Just then, an elderly man in a long robe swept in, leading a group of experts.

The supreme leader of the Wolf Clan, Chief Bartel.

At that moment, Monte broke free from Ye Feng’s grip and rushed to Bartel. He looked at him and roared in fury, "Grandfather, Great Xia has ignored our agreement and brazenly invaded our clan! I implore you, Grandfather, give the order to wipe out these defeated remnants!"

Seeing this, Meng Jiaxin hurried over. She put on an apologetic smile and said to Bartel, "Chief Bartel, we truly had no intention of offending you..."

But before she could finish, Bartel cut her off rudely. "How dare you lay a hand on my grandson! You have offended the Wolf Clan, and you will pay a terrible price for it."

With that, he waved his hand and roared, "All members of the Wolf Clan, hear my command! Attack! Today, I will wipe out these invaders!"

Meng Jiaxin’s face instantly went deathly pale, and her heart sank to the pit of her stomach. ’It’s over. This time, none of us will escape.’

But just then, Ye Feng turned to face Bartel and spoke calmly, "And who is it you’re going to wipe out?"

Bartel got a clear look at Ye Feng and froze on the spot. The next moment, his entire body began to tremble uncontrollably.

Monte didn’t notice Bartel’s strange reaction. He glared at Ye Feng and roared furiously, "None of you ants will escape! You’re all going to be wiped out—"

Before he could finish, Bartel suddenly raised his hand and sent a heavy slap across his face. He glared at Monte and roared, "Shut your mouth!"

Tut froze, staring blankly at Bartel. He simply couldn’t believe his eyes.

’The chief actually struck one of his own? Isn’t this siding with outsiders against your own family?’

He was about to speak, but the scene that followed nearly made his eyes pop out of his head. To his astonishment, Bartel stumbled over to Ye Feng, dropped to his knees with a THUD, and cried out emotionally, "Bartel pays his respects to his benefactor!"

’Benefactor?’

Tut stared at Bartel, finding the scene utterly unbelievable.

’This bastard almost killed one of our own, and Grandfather is kneeling to him? Calling him Benefactor?’

Unable to hold back any longer, Tut went to Bartel’s side and cried out in astonishment, "Grandfather, are you mistaken? How could *he* possibly be your benefactor?"

Bartel whirled around and roared at Tut, "The benefactor saved the lives of our entire clan! How could I possibly mistake him?"

"He... he saved our entire clan?" Tut’s eyes went wide.

Bartel nodded, his voice hoarse. "Three years ago, this land was ravaged by wolf packs. One night, tens of thousands of wild wolves besieged our people. Just as our entire clan was about to be devoured, our benefactor arrived in the nick of time. He drove the wolves away and saved us.

"Our benefactor also taught us the art of commanding wolves, allowing us to make the packs obey our orders. They became our guardians. It is only because of this that the Wolf Clan had the strength to absorb other tribes, grow into a great clan, and gain the power to survive in this land.

"The image of our benefactor is seared into my very soul. How could I ever be mistaken?"

Tut studied Ye Feng carefully and finally recognized him as well. With a THUD, he fell to his knees before Ye Feng and kowtowed repeatedly, his voice filled with guilt. "I was blind not to have recognized you, Benefactor! Please forgive my earlier offense."

The other members of the Wolf Clan behind them all dropped to their knees in unison, kowtowing endlessly toward Ye Feng.

Ye Feng looked at Bartel, then pointed to Meng Jiaxin beside him. "This is my First Senior Sister," he said calmly. "Now, are you still planning on wiping them out?"

Upon hearing this, Bartel exclaimed, "So, Meng War God is your Senior Sister! Ah, this is a classic case of the great flood washing away the Dragon King’s temple—family fighting family without realizing it!"

With that, he quickly got to his feet, went to Meng Jiaxin, and said guiltily, "Meng War God, this old man was blind. I did not realize you were our benefactor’s Senior Sister. Please forgive my offense. Now, I invite you, Meng War God, to lead your men into our territory. I must host you all properly today."

Meng Jiaxin looked at Bartel and quickly shook her head. "Old Chief, we dare not enter your territory. Doing so would surely provoke the allied forces to attack the Wolf Clan, bringing a fatal disaster upon you all."

Bartel declared boldly, "Since you are our benefactor’s people, you are our family. Your trouble is the Wolf Clan’s trouble. If the allied forces come, then we will fight!"

Meng Jiaxin was deeply moved.

Just then, Bartel looked at the exhausted and wounded Eastern Domain soldiers behind them. "Meng War God," he urged, "have your people enter our territory to rest. They can’t hold on much longer."

Meng Jiaxin said gratefully, "In that case, thank you, Old Chief."

With that, she ordered her second-in-command to lead the Eastern Domain forces toward the Wolf Clan’s settlement.

Bartel looked at Tut and ordered in a cold voice, "You will take the clan’s elites and guard this place. If the allied forces dare to advance, beat them to death."

"Yes," Tut answered.

Bartel, along with Ye Feng and Meng Jiaxin, headed for the Wolf Clan’s settlement.

Bartel ordered his people to tend to the soldiers’ injuries, then he prepared a grand feast to welcome the warriors of Great Xia.

Meng Jiaxin looked at Ye Feng, her voice laced with worry. "Ye Feng, the allied forces have ten million elite soldiers. If they launch an all-out attack, even the Wolf Clan will be irrevocably doomed."

Bartel spoke boisterously, "What’s there to be afraid of? Worst case, we fight them to the death! Besides, we have the wolf packs on our side. It won’t be so easy for them to destroy us."

Ye Feng chuckled. "Don’t worry. This time, not only will those scumbags fail to destroy us, they will all meet their end right here."

Meng Jiaxin’s eyes widened as she stared at Ye Feng. "Are you spouting nonsense again? With the Wolf Clan, we have barely a million troops. How can we possibly stand against their ten million elites? And you want to eliminate them all? With what? Your words?"

Ye Feng looked at Meng Jiaxin and grinned mischievously. "First Senior Sister, I’ll repeat my offer. If I can’t eliminate the entire allied army, I’ll be at your mercy. But if I succeed, you’ll have to help me review my lessons again."

The nearby Bartel asked in confusion, "What kind of lessons need reviewing?"

Ye Feng said with a sly smile, "It’s..."

He was only halfway through his sentence when a flustered Meng Jiaxin cut him off. "Ye Feng, you dare say it! Watch, I’ll rip that mouth of yours right off!"

Ye Feng immediately burst into loud laughter.

The next moment, he pulled out a paper figurine and handed it to Bartel. "Old Chief," he instructed, "have your people start cutting paper figures for me, to this exact size."

"How many?" Bartel asked Ye Feng.

"The more, the better," Ye Feng said coolly.

"Alright, I’ll see to it at once." Bartel agreed without hesitation and turned to leave and make the arrangements.

Meng Jiaxin looked at Ye Feng and asked doubtfully, "Ye Feng, what are you going to do with so many paper figurines?"

Ye Feng gave a slight smile. "You don’t need to worry about that. Just remember to fulfill your end of our bet when the time comes."

Meng Jiaxin was furious. ’He’s still making crass jokes at a time like this!’ she fumed internally. She glared at Ye Feng and ground out through her teeth, "Fine. If even a single soldier from the allied army escapes, just you see how I’ll deal with you."

Ye Feng’s comment made Meng Jiaxin not want to speak to him anymore.
