Chapter 467: A Life Must Be Saved

With Yang Xiaofei being so forward, Wang Chenning naturally wasn’t going to back down. He immediately took the lead.

But just as the space between them was about to vanish, Wang Chenning’s phone rang at the most inopportune moment.

“Ignore it!” Yang Xiaofei stopped Wang Chenning from reaching for his phone, becoming even more passionate.

But as it happened, her movement caused Wang Chenning’s hand to swipe across the answer key.

“Dr. Wang, this is Zhang Jingfeng from Yandu Hospital. We’ve admitted a patient with severe brain herniation. He’s a decorated pilot who suffered cerebral hypoxia while handling an incident, which subsequently led to the herniation. Our treatments haven’t been very effective. Can you come over and help us take a look?”

“Okay, I’m on my way!” Wang Chenning covered Yang Xiaofei’s mouth and sat up. “But I’m in the suburbs right now. Even rushing back at top speed, it’ll take me about an hour. For the next hour, you have to do everything in your power to keep him alive!”

“Okay!” Zhang Jingfeng breathed a sigh of relief. “We’ll be waiting for you!”

“What’s wrong?” Yang Xiaofei had mostly overheard the phone conversation and mumbled in confusion, “Isn’t Yandu Hospital one of the best hospitals in Huaxia? Why would they need to call you for help to save a patient?”

“Zhang Jingfeng is the dean of Yandu Hospital. For him to personally call me for help means the patient’s condition is incredibly difficult and their identity is highly unusual. In other words, this is a life that must be snatched back from Death himself. I have to go back!”

As he spoke, Wang Chenning lifted Yang Xiaofei out and urged her to quickly get her clothes in order.

Yang Xiaofei wasn’t just anyone, after all. Hearing Wang Chenning’s explanation, she calmed down and quickly gathered their things.

Ten minutes later, they were both in the car.

After starting the car, Wang Chenning called Wu Ziyue. He briefly explained the situation and asked her to coordinate with the Public Security Bureau to arrange a police escort. The plan was for a traffic officer to clear a path for him once he hit the ring road, allowing him to reach Yandu Hospital as fast as possible.

Wu Ziyue asked no questions and immediately agreed to make the arrangements for Wang Chenning.

As Wang Chenning’s car reached a nearby intersection, a motorcycle cop, siren wailing, sped up in front of him. He motioned for Wang Chenning’s Ford Edge to follow his bike.

Wang Chenning immediately flicked on his hazard lights, shifted the gear into S mode, and told Yang Xiaofei to brace herself in case of any mishaps.

With its siren wailing nonstop, the police motorcycle led Wang Chenning’s car, and they sped forward.

Traffic was still quite congested at this hour, but with everyone’s cooperation and the support of Wang Chenning’s own expert driving skills, he reached Yandu Hospital in just under fifty minutes.

The car didn’t stop until it was right in front of the emergency building.

As soon as the car came to a halt, Wang Chenning threw open the door, grabbed his medical kit from the trunk, and sprinted toward the EICU—the Emergency Intensive Care Unit—on the second floor.

Dean Zhang Jingfeng, several other hospital directors, and a few representatives from the patient’s unit were all waiting outside the hospital room.

When they saw Wang Chenning approaching, they all rushed up to meet him.

“No time to talk, I’m going in to see him!” Wang Chenning didn’t even slow down, running straight into the room.

“Teacher Wang is here. Everyone, don’t worry. He’s going to be fine!” Zhang Jingfeng heaved a long sigh of relief. “Let’s wait for the good news!”

“Dean Zhang,” a middle-aged man with a small, golden star on his shoulder said worriedly, “what if he can’t cure him either? What do we do then?”

“If even Teacher Wang Chenning can’t cure him, then there’s truly no hope,” Zhang Jingfeng sighed.

The others exchanged glances and also sighed.

After rushing into the room, Wang Chenning changed into scrubs and put on a mask with practiced speed, then strode purposefully to the patient’s bedside.

The patient was hooked up to all kinds of tubes, and the alarms on the heart monitor blared incessantly.

As Wang Chenning took the patient’s pulse, he listened to a briefing on the patient’s condition from the attending physician.

Once his examination was complete, he immediately addressed the medical staff assisting him. “Everyone, to your stations! Prepare for emergency treatment! Don’t be too worried. The patient’s condition is severe, but fortunately, the initial response was timely and there were no issues with the prior treatment. His condition hasn’t worsened, and there is no widespread necrosis of the brain tissue.”

Hearing Wang Chenning’s assessment, everyone breathed a small sigh of relief.

Before preparing for the acupuncture, Wang Chenning gave several medical orders. The staff on hand had already been told by Dean Zhang Jingfeng to follow Wang Chenning’s instructions to the letter, so no one dared to question his commands.

Right before beginning the acupuncture, Wang Chenning took out a medicinal pill. He crushed half of it, dissolved it in warm water, and instructed a nurse beside him to administer the liquid to the patient’s stomach through the esophageal tube.

While the nurse deftly administered the medicine into the patient’s stomach, Wang Chenning finished his final preparations for the treatment.

After the nurse stepped back, he sat down before the patient. He picked up a needle and focused his qi for a moment, then swiftly inserted needles into the patient’s Taiyang, Tianchong, and Baihui acupoints.

He then swiftly channeled his qi, causing the needles to spin.

Soon, wisps of white vapor began to rise from between his fingers and the sites of the needles…
