Urban Genius Divine Doctor
Chapter 468: A Miracle Appears
As Wang Chenning performed the acupuncture, the medical staff gathered around were pleasantly surprised to discover that the alarm from the ECG monitor was changing from short, rapid beeps to long, slow ones. The patient’s vitals were also slowly recovering from their critical state.
This tangible improvement left everyone both amazed and delighted.
Still, no one uttered a word. They all held their breath, their eyes fixed on Wang Chenning.
“Another 250ml of mannitol by IV drip, plus a 40mg intravenous injection of furosemide. Closely monitor for changes in the patient’s renal function.” Wang Chenning paused the acupuncture to check the patient’s condition and issued a new set of orders.
The doctors and nurses at his side acknowledged the order and immediately administered the injections as instructed.
Wang Chenning resumed the acupuncture.
After more than an hour, he paused the treatment on the patient’s head and moved on to applying acupuncture to the chest and the areas over the liver and kidneys.
By the time Wang Chenning paused the acupuncture on the patient’s head, his vitals had already improved dramatically compared to before the treatment.
The doctors inside the room weren’t the only ones who saw the change. The officials gathered outside were also informed of the developments right away.
“Teacher Wang will not let us down, I’m sure of it!” Zhang Jingfeng’s tone had become confident, and his expression was far more animated than before. “Everyone, stop worrying. The patient’s vitals are all starting to improve. The comrade is definitely out of danger now!”
“Let’s hope Teacher Wang can give us a pleasant surprise!” said the highest-ranking official present—an elderly man with two small, golden stars on his shoulder—after letting out a long sigh of relief. “It seems our nation’s traditional medicine can truly create miracles!”
“Teacher Wang has already created a string of miracles!” Zhang Jingfeng said with obvious pride. “Many patients our hospital was unable to treat have slowly regained their health thanks to Teacher Wang. Between our hospital and the University of Traditional Chinese Medicine’s affiliated hospital, we have over a hundred such cases. In other words, Teacher Wang has snatched more than one hundred patients—all of them given a death sentence, medically speaking—back from the hands of the Grim Reaper!”
“Teacher Wang will absolutely create a miracle today, too!” Zhang Jingfeng said with unshakable confidence. “Otherwise, I wouldn’t have insisted on calling him here!”
“If I’d known, I would have sent a helicopter to get him!” the middle-aged man with a single star on his shoulder—the one who had stopped and questioned Wang Chenning on his way in—said with considerable regret. “He could have been here in less than half the time!”
As they spoke, Wang Chenning finished the acupuncture session and began to pack up his tools.
“I’ll need to perform another round of acupuncture in two hours!” Wang Chenning said, having a nurse at his side wipe the sweat from his brow as he briefed the team. “The patient’s brain herniation is mostly resolved, but we must watch for a recurrence. Until my next treatment, I need you to closely monitor all his vitals. Notify me immediately if there are any abnormalities. Monitor his blood gases every half hour, and report any changes to me as they happen!”
With that, he stood up and rubbed his lower back. “I’m going to get some rest and recover my strength.”
The EICU director, who was right behind Wang Chenning, quickly instructed the head nurse to personally arrange a room for him to rest.
Wang Chenning knew that after this first round of treatment, Zhang Jingfeng and the others would be eager for an update.
He proactively explained the situation to them, stressing that he needed to get some proper rest to prepare for the next round of treatment in two hours.
The next treatment in two hours was critical. It would determine whether the patient made a full recovery, was left with permanent brain damage, or even lost his life.
Hearing this, the elderly man with the two golden stars on his shoulder raised his hand and gave Wang Chenning a solemn salute. “We are entrusting him to you, Teacher Wang!”
“Saving lives is the undeniable duty of any medical professional. I will do everything in my power to save the patient!” Wang Chenning didn’t waste any more words. He turned, went to the break room, and lay down for a deep sleep.
During that time, the patient’s condition remained stable, so no one disturbed him. Wang Chenning managed to get a solid hour and a half of sleep.
An hour and forty-five minutes after the previous treatment session, Wang Chenning woke up.
He splashed some water on his face and walked back into the patient’s room.
“Teacher Wang, the patient’s vital signs are stable, and every metric continues to improve!” the EICU director told Wang Chenning excitedly. “The cerebral edema and herniation are almost completely resolved. Thank you, really. You’ve allowed us to witness another miracle!”
“The patient isn’t completely out of danger yet, so we can’t afford to be careless.” Wang Chenning smiled, sat down, and began examining the patient once more.
After the examination, he didn’t immediately begin the acupuncture. Instead, he used both hands to gently massage the patient’s head for a dozen minutes or so.
Only after finishing the massage did he begin the second round of acupuncture.
This acupuncture session was shorter than the last, lasting only about an hour.
When the acupuncture was finished, Wang Chenning gently patted the patient’s cheek and said with a broad smile, “Comrade Pilot, you can wake up now!”
