Chapter 1558: The Student Council Makes Their Move

I didn’t really need to move because Odeta had already moved herself in front of me and grabbed that guy’s ankle, swinging him around her head before smashing him onto the ground.

The rest of my girls also shifted themselves into combat stances as they checked the area around us for enemies while also keeping an eye on the guy Odeta smashed into the ground.

"Ow, ow, ow... Ok, ok... They warned me not to do this but... I guess I should have listened..." The guy groaned.

I was already quite impressed that he was still conscious after Odeta had smashed him down like that. I’m pretty sure she did not hold back at all.

That was when I realised that the guy was not actually a guy but an Amrap. She had a head of red hair tied up in a ponytail and she looked to be around the same size as Odeta.

She pushed herself up on an arm but Odeta was not having any of that as she stepped up and pulled back her fist again, clearly intending to punch her again.

The red haired Amrap quickly raised her hands and caught Odeta’s punch, the impact causing her to almost smash back into the ground again.

"Ahhh! Wait, wait, wait! Time out! Time out!" The Amrap cried out in a panic. "I’m Valuria! I’m part of the Student Council! I was just trying to test her!"

Odeta either did not hear her or she did not care as she reached her other hand down to try and grab the other Amrap’s throat.

The one named Valuria used her other hand to stop her by grabbing Odeta’s hand, but that only made Odeta push down harder on her, like she was trying to push her back down on the ground.

"Woah! Woah!! Wait, wait, wait! Ahhh! That actually hurts! Help!"

I cleared my throat, "Ahem... Odeta?"

My Amrap lover made an unsatisfied noise but obeyed me by releasing her and taking a step back.

The red haired Amrap shook her hands to ease the pain in her wrists before standing up, taking a moment to dust herself off before smiling at us.

"Ahem... Allow me to introduce myself again! I am Valuria! Head of the Disciplinary Committee in the Student Council! Nice to meet you!"

I tilted my head, "Umm... Nice to meet you? But um... What do you want with me? Did I do something wrong?"

She shook her head quickly, "No, no. That’s not why I’m here. We were thinking of recruiting you to the Student Council, Lady Aster!"

"By... Trying to drop kick me?"

"Ahahaha! Forgive me, but I heard about your martial skills and wanted to try seeing it for myself. But I suppose I should have expected your friends would be more than willing to jump in to protect you."

Odeta was still glaring at the Amrap, clearly prepared to attack her if she showed any signs of aggression again.

If Valuria noticed it, she did not show it.

Instead, she gestured at me, "So how about it? Want to have a spar with me?"

I looked around before turning back to her, "Umm... Is this the student council’s booth or something?"

"Ah, no, no. The Student Council does not do the usual way of recruiting. We only invite exceptional students that we believe will be a good fit for the council. Not anyone could just join us!"

"Right... Umm... Is there a reason why you chose me then?"

She blinked at me, as though I had just said something that was self explanatory to her.

Heck, even a few of my girls were giving me an odd look as well.

Valuria gestured at me, "Lady Aster... I think at this point, the position of the top of the year is all but guaranteed to go to you. I really doubt there would be anyone else who could replicate what you have accomplished so far in the same amount of time that you have been in the Academy. Because of that, there is no reason for us to pass up the chance to invite you to the Student Council. You would be a perfect fit here!"

I blinked at her before looking at my girls for a moment, all of them looking back at me to show that they didn’t mind if I took the offer.

I turned back to Valuria, "What about my girls?"

Valuria paused, "Ah... I apologise but... the offer is only extended to you."

"Eh? But why? All of them are also just as exceptional right? How could you invite me but not any of them?"

She shook her head, "I understand that... And I have checked their records as well so I know that all of you are also exceptional students. But unfortunately, there is only one slot for first year students to join the Student Council. That’s why we picked you."

I frowned at that and I was about to reject her when Lisa spoke up, "What’s in it for her? You’re inviting her to the Student Council but what does she get for joining you?"

Valuria straightened herself and thrust her chest out which made the two globes on her chest bounce tantalisingly, "I’m glad you asked! The Student Council is responsible for representing the students of the Academy and is responsible for many things related to student life. As a member of the Student Council, Lady Aster will have control over the students indirectly!"

I tilted my head at her, "Wait... I thought the Student Affairs Committee or whatever is in charge of that?"

The Amrap smiled at me, "That is correct. They are simply one of the arms of the Student Council. And yes, the Enforcer Committee is also part of the Student Council as well. In fact, it is one of the groups directly under me. Which was why I wanted to test out your skills personally, Lady Aster!"

I pursed my lips, "Well... If my girls are not joining, then I probably wouldn’t either..."

Valuria’s face fell but unexpectedly, Tsara spoke up, my Trasif clasping her hands together while stepping up beside me.

"I think you should join, Lady Aster. It is a place that is befitting of your station," She insisted, looking at me with a shine in her eyes.

Even more surprising was Ira also chiming in, "I think you should do it as well, Aster. It’s a step to place you above the others in the Academy."

Emilia also nodded her head in agreement, "I agree as well Boss! You deserve it! I think you should also take the position! After all, you can also influence the school through that position!"

I think the biggest surprise came from Katsuki also agreeing with the idea.

"Mistress... If I may be allowed to suggest, I also believe that it would be good that you take up a position within the Student Council. It would give you a position of authority and since you are already seen as the apprentice of the Chancellor, it would reflect badly on you and even the Chancellor if you are not in the Student Council."

I blinked at her, "Wait... There’s such a thing?"

Valuria huffed, "You are the first apprentice the Chancellor has taken under her wing since... Well... Gods know when. So you are already a student that stands above basically every other student within the school. Inviting you to the Student Council is just the expected next step. But you don’t need to feel pressured to accept the invitation if you don’t want to. You can just turn it down and people will know that you rejected the invitation, not that we did not see you as someone good enough to join us."

Ah... I see now...

She said earlier that they only have one slot for the first year students so I can safely assume that they reserve that spot for the top student of the year. That gives everyone the belief that anyone the Student Council invites will be the top student.

And I guess... At this point in time... Everyone has basically recognised me as the top contender for the top student so if the Student Council does not at least extend an invitation, then they might be seen as being biased or even stupid for not recognising that ’fact’.

If I choose to reject the invitation, then they could at least claim that they tried but I rejected it.

One question though...

"Wouldn’t it be too premature to invite a first year student into the Student Council this early in the school year? You’re basically using only a few weeks to determine who is the best student... What if you picked wrong?"

Valuria grinned, "Oh we don’t usually recruit this early, Lady Aster. Under normal circumstances, we only send this invitation after half a year has passed. But you are not normal, Lady Aster. That’s why we are inviting you this early."

Ah... I see now...

Well... Umm... Should I join them?
