While Everyone Panicked, I Upgraded My Raft
Chapter 175 - 158: What Is in the Deep Sea Region?
Chapter 175: Chapter 158: What Is in the Deep Sea Region?
The terrain of Void Isle was relatively flat. Past a stretch of sandy beach, the land abruptly rose dozens of meters, leveling out into a neat, flat plateau atop the mountain. However, the mountain’s face was honeycombed with various caves. These caverns were clearly formed by seawater erosion, leaving the rock surface exceedingly rough. All in all, it was a stunning natural landscape.
Rowan Rhodes thought that, if nothing else, the islands in the Sea Survival Game were all exceptionally unique. The mountain was ringed with diverse caves, while the plateau above hosted a dense forest. And a forest equated to abundant resources. Compared to exploring the caves, Rowan was undeniably more interested in the woods, and even her little companions shared this sentiment.
"Master, hurry up! Faster!" Big Turtle couldn’t help but urge impatiently from Rowan’s hand.
Rowan couldn’t help but chuckle. She looked up at Seabird One and said, "Why don’t you guys take Big Turtle and fly up there first?"
Without any tools, finding a gentle slope to climb would take her quite some time. It was better to let Big Turtle and the flock head up first. As for the danger of encountering wild animals, Rowan simply wasn’t worried. Big Turtle had his shell for protection, and Seabird One’s flock could fly. If they couldn’t win a fight, they could easily escape. Because of this, Rowan felt completely at ease.
"Sounds good! Seabird One, take me up!" Big Turtle’s voice grew eager.
"Understood," Seabird One replied. He swooped down, snatched Big Turtle right out of Rowan’s hands, and carried him away. In the blink of an eye, they dwindled into tiny black dots in the sky.
Rowan gently adjusted her hold on Void Beast Atticus, who was still resting in her arms. "Atticus, aren’t you going?"
"Nope. I’ve already explored the entire island," Void Beast Atticus answered without hesitation.
"There must be plenty of edible plants on the island! Can you gather them?" Rowan asked curiously.
"No! We’re here on a mission. We can only trade with our targets, not steal their resources," Void Beast Atticus explained, sounding entirely unbothered by the restriction.
In truth, his species’ population was simply too massive; this tiny bit of resources meant absolutely nothing to them. All they could do was trade with other races that excelled at farming, and they paid with Space Stones. The Space Stones they produced were hard currency. However, because those farming races always used food to control them, the Void Beasts were forced to seek other alternatives. Going out on missions was one such alternative. But since their strength was low, they were dispatched early on, and their meager earnings were barely better than nothing.
This time was different, though. He had met a reliable human who possessed an abundance of resources so early on. At that thought, Void Beast Atticus felt even closer to Rowan and affectionately rubbed his head against her hand.
Sensing his affection, the corners of Rowan’s lips curled up. "It’s alright. I can set up a long-term trade with you guys in the future. By the way, which sea region does your species live in?"
As she asked this, her heart involuntarily skipped a beat. She had a theory.
Since the system had classified Void Beast Atticus as one of the Native People, didn’t that prove his kind also lived somewhere in this ocean? However, it probably wasn’t the Shallow Sea or the Coastal Waters. It had to be another sea region. In her previous life, she had only reached the Coastal Waters Region. She knew that the Deep Sea Region existed beyond it, but she had no idea if there were even higher-tier regions. That was why she needed to fish for information from Void Beast Atticus. She knew, at the very least, that the Shallow Sea and Coastal Waters were impossible.
"We’re in the Deep Sea Region!" Void Beast Atticus chirped.
Hearing the Deep Sea Region mentioned, Rowan’s pupils slightly contracted. She had guessed right!
That meant once players entered the Deep Sea Region, they would officially step into the sights of the Native People. What attitude would the Native People have toward outsiders like them?
"In that case, once we enter the Deep Sea Region, wouldn’t we be able to visit your tribe as guests?" Rowan asked casually.
"Sure! Our tribe will definitely welcome you," Void Beast Atticus said excitedly. He was already looking forward to it. But his tone suddenly shifted. "Rowan, if you guys aren’t strong enough, you’ll be plundered by other races once you enter the Deep Sea Region. We’ve had mission targets in the past. Some managed to establish a foothold in the Deep Sea Region, but others were destroyed and became slaves to others."
Rowan’s heart skipped a beat at his words.
Was that really how it worked? Entering the Deep Sea Region meant entering an entirely new world. It wasn’t just a clash between players, but a collision between civilizations. And what came after the Deep Sea Region? If they managed to gain a foothold, would they remain stuck in this world forever, waiting for the next civilization to be dragged in?
Rowan had a gut feeling that beyond the Deep Sea Region, even more competitions were waiting for them. For now, however, all of that was far too distant. But one thing was absolutely certain: lingering in the Shallow Sea Region and the Coastal Waters Region for an extended period was highly advantageous for the players.
The sheer volume of information she had gleaned from Void Beast Atticus today was staggering.
"Thank you for caring. We’ll work hard," Rowan said earnestly.
This information was extremely crucial for players who were completely clueless about the background of the Sea Survival Game. If she hadn’t possessed her natural skills, it would have been impossible for her to learn any of this from the Void Beast. So, what fate awaited the unprepared Azure players upon entering the Deep Sea Region? It didn’t take a genius to realize it wouldn’t be pretty.
She would likely need to leak this information early on so the players could brace themselves. Rowan firmly believed in the resilience of her fellow players. Knowing the truth at the right time would push them to fight even harder. Perhaps knowing the dangers that lay ahead would also make it easier for them to unite.
But when would be the right time? Rowan silently calculated in her mind.
"Mhm." Void Beast Atticus nodded. He had a lot of faith in Rowan’s abilities.
Immediately after, Rowan continued her climb up the mountain with Void Beast Atticus. Her physically enhanced body moved with crisp, agile efficiency. During the ascent, she refrained from pressing for more details about the Deep Sea Region. Information had to be extracted gradually, through subtle, indirect questions. Asking too much at once would easily arouse suspicion.
Void Beast Atticus was merely naive, not stupid. After spending just one night together, Rowan felt that the creature had already grown much smarter upon absorbing plenty of common knowledge. Perhaps this was the exact reason why the Void Beast tribe sent these young ones out on missions. By going out and meeting numerous mission targets, they could absorb knowledge and personality traits, allowing them to grow at a much faster rate.
If she had tried to befriend Void Beast Atticus after he had already met a bunch of other players, things would definitely not have gone this smoothly. It was all about being in the right place at the right time, with the right people!
After her rebirth, her luck had indeed improved drastically.
