Who Needs a CEO? I Choose Stardom
Chapter 219 - 181: Wangcai and a New Job
Times change. There’s no need to get hung up on this. Wangcai it is!
’Loving money is better than loving some strange man, anyway.’ She thought.
Seeing his resentful look, Ni Bingyan thought he disliked the name. She offered a rare smile and asked, "You don’t think the name I chose is good? Why don’t you pick one?"
Sang Yuan immediately waved his hands in refusal.
’He remembered what happened when they were naming their child in his past life. She had smilingly let him choose, but after he wracked his brains for months, she didn’t like a single name he came up with.’
’Now he’d learned his lesson. Whatever his wife said, goes.’
’Besides, Wangcai seemed to be adjusting to it just fine.’
"Has he eaten?"
"He has. Just give him some water tonight. He’s a very good dog and learns routines quickly. Just pay a little more attention at the beginning, and he’ll be fine once he gets used to you."
"Mm," Ni Bingyan hummed in agreement, her eyes uncontrollably drifting toward the wall clock.
’It’s already nine-thirty. I need to wash up and go to sleep.’
But Sang Yuan was lingering today, refusing to leave.
So, Ni Bingyan asked him, "What’s wrong?"
Sang Yuan asked sourly, "Gu Feng is really handsome! Everyone online is saying you two are a great match."
Ni Bingyan couldn’t help but laugh out loud. "What are you thinking? Off-set, we’re just colleagues. It’s all just to cooperate with the production’s promotional efforts."
"Sigh, the way you look at him in that picture... you’ve never looked at me like that!"
"That’s a promotional still! Come on! I don’t look at him like that when we’re not filming."
Sang Yuan was still grumbling, so Ni Bingyan started pushing him out the door. "Alright, alright! That’s enough! Can’t a person have a male colleague? Don’t say things like that again. Don’t mix what happens in the show with real life. What if someone said you and your female secretary make a great couple? How would you feel?"
Sang Yuan stubbornly clung to the doorframe without a word. Ni Bingyan was both exasperated and amused, and couldn’t stop herself from punching him lightly on the shoulder.
"Hey! If you want to be jealous, then go ahead and drown in it! There are so many handsome men in the entertainment industry. Are you going to get sour over every single one I work with? You should stop running a company and just open a steamed bun shop! With an old sourdough starter like you around, you’d save on yeast. You deserve to get rich!"
Sang Yuan broke into a smile. "I don’t have a female secretary! My assistant and my secretary are both men. I’ll take you to my company some other day and have them meet the boss’s wife. It would be so awkward if they ran into you and didn’t recognize you."
"Get out, get out, get out! You’re getting more and more shameless! I haven’t even agreed to marry you yet!"
"Sigh, you heartless woman. You take my dog, and then you immediately tell me to leave!"
Normally, Sang Yuan wasn’t the type to fool around like this. Seeing him go so far as to make fun of himself just to make her laugh today, Ni Bingyan appreciated the gesture.
"Alright, don’t worry. I’ll be able to adjust soon. I’ll get used to it after filming a few more episodes."
Only then did Sang Yuan pat her on the head and say goodbye.
Watching his figure slowly disappear into the night, Ni Bingyan closed the courtyard gate and went back inside, a strong wave of emotion welling up in her heart.
The next day, Ni Bingyan brought Wangcai to the set of *Rainy Days with an Umbrella*. Thanks to his good looks, Wangcai instantly became the crew’s darling.
The transition from that set to this one was like night and day; while that one was a false spring with a lingering chill, this one felt like escaping a toxic ex and immediately meeting a warm, caring man.
After getting used to it, Ni Bingyan gave Sister Wei a huge thumbs-up in her mind!
’Thank goodness I took this role. Otherwise, if I kept wallowing in depression all day, something bad might have really happened.’
By early July, Ni Bingyan’s mood had gradually recovered, and she returned to her daily routine of studying and doing practice tests.
Now, however, whenever she read and studied, the little golden-furred Wangcai was always lying by her feet.
Having broken free from her mental prison and felt the warmth of life once more, Ni Bingyan felt that this experience had made her much stronger.
When Sister Wei came looking for her, Ni Bingyan had just finished work for the day and was in her trailer, removing her makeup and doing her skincare routine.
Ever since Brother Biao had joined the team, he had been the one to accompany her to various events. Wei Shuojie hadn’t come to see her in a long time, so Ni Bingyan was a little surprised by her visit today. "Sister Wei, what’s up?"
"Look, there’s a new public service announcement. You should take it."
Wei Shuojie took out a proposal.
"What’s it for?"
Ni Bingyan leaned forward to look, but it was a bit too far across the table for her to see clearly.
"It’s about depression."
"Was the last PSA that effective?"
’I’ve been so busy filming this year, with so many events to attend on top of that. I don’t even know when that ad was released, so I really haven’t paid attention to the public’s reaction.’
"It was indeed effective, but that’s not why I want you to take this one. It’s because... you were trending on the hot search again the day before yesterday."
Wei Shuojie sighed. Ni Bingyan’s reaction was placid. "Oh."
’Other actresses might hope to trend on the hot search, manufacturing topics out of thin air even when they haven’t won an award or released new work. But she disliked it when netizens paid attention to matters outside of her professional life.’
"Your trip to the hospital was photographed by another patient. It was first shared in a depression-related group on Douban, then someone reposted it to Weibo, and now it’s all over the internet."
"People are only human; they get sick. It’s perfectly normal. If they want to take pictures, let them."
’She hadn’t gone to some private clinic with good confidentiality. She went openly to a public hospital to see a specialist, so she wasn’t afraid of what people might say.’
"Sigh, if we hadn’t reacted quickly, your rivals would have already started spreading rumors that you have some kind of mental illness."
Wei Shuojie hadn’t rested well for the past two days trying to handle this, and the dark circles under her eyes were heavy.
"I should take this ad. But, Sister Wei, shouldn’t you get some sleep first?"
Wei Shuojie shook her head. "No need. I have to get this matter settled as soon as possible."
As soon as it happened, she started arranging for an online water army to control the narrative. They praised *Soul Ferryman* to the high heavens, and then they praised Ni Bingyan for her professionalism—how she gritted her teeth and finished the series even as she was pushed to the brink of a mental breakdown and developed depressive tendencies.
Now, the online discussion has already shifted to which legendary actors in history have made all sorts of sacrifices to create great works.
