Chapter 1546: Chapter 1546: You’ll Regret It If You Don’t Listen
Stella seemed very afraid that she would know she was with Hayes Simmons; there was a hint of nervousness in her tone when they just started the call.
Scarlett Yates stood by the street holding the phone, and quietly sighed.
She felt that the entanglement between Stella and Hayes Simmons would probably continue.
Both of them were actually quite aware of the consequences of continuing this entanglement, but it seemed neither was willing to give up.
Perhaps, they were both unwilling to let go.
She felt that Hayes Simmons was actually quite pitiable.
On the surface, he was so glamorous, yet in reality, he couldn’t even make decisions about his own lifelong matters.
But Stella was even more pitiable.
Knowing full well it would lead to nothing, yet she plunged headlong into it, like a moth to a flame, willing to risk her life for that tiny bit of brightness.
But thinking of her own situation at the moment, a self-mocking smile curled at the corner of her lips.
She now felt that Stella and Hayes Simmons were pathetic, but wasn’t she also quite pathetic herself?
What right did she have to pity others? How much better off was she?
After the brief happiness and joy, she had to face the cold and harsh reality.
Matthew Saxon claimed to have a friend who could solve the virus in his body, a statement Scarlett was skeptical about.
If he truly had such a powerful friend, then Roy Saxon wouldn’t still be lying unconscious, would he?
Half of it was true, and half was him lying to reassure her.
Scarlett felt the latter was more likely.
A car sped past her, bringing a gust of cold wind to her face.
She shivered, hugged herself tighter, and looked up at the traffic light across the street.
As the little green man started flashing, she followed the crowd and walked to the other side.
There were quite a few restaurants opposite Saint Mercy Hospital, one of which had pretty good porridge, and Scarlett decided to bring a portion back for Matthew Saxon.
As soon as she reached the other side of the street, her phone rang.
She was about to absentmindedly take it out to check, but when her eyes fell on the screen, instantly, a chill surged through her body. Her face changed, and the flashing red light illuminated her face, making it deathly pale. A glimmer of fear shone in her dark pupils.
She didn’t want to answer this call.
But the ringing continued again and again.
The caller was very patient, never hanging up, redialing immediately after the first attempt didn’t go through.
The sound of ringing... like a death knell, with every ring, Scarlett’s face turned a shade paler.
In the end, Scarlett gritted her teeth, took a deep breath, and slowly pressed the call button.
"Scarlett." The voice was male, magnetic, and pleasing, a kind of voice that could cause one’s ears to "fall pregnant" upon hearing.
But this voice only filled Scarlett with fear, anger, and hatred.
"Maxwell Saxon." She gritted through her teeth, as if crushing his name in her mouth and spitting it out one word at a time, harshly.
"Don’t worry, I won’t rush you for an answer. We agreed on two days, I can wait."
"Then why are you calling me?" Scarlett really wanted to hang up immediately.
This repulsive voice, she didn’t want to hear it at all.
"Don’t hang up just yet." As if sensing her intention, Maxwell Saxon chuckled softly and said, "I have something else to say, something important; you’ll regret it if you don’t listen."
Scarlett froze, a chill rising up her back again, nervously turning her head to look around.
