Once he finished testing what he wanted to test, Lin Fan didn’t make things difficult for the spirit beasts.
He let them head off and do what they wanted while he put away Gramr.
Watching them leave, he couldn’t figure out anything about the dragon aura that they possessed. Even though he used his Appraisal Eyes, it really didn’t seem like there was anything that it was able to find.
Whatever modifications had been done to these spirit beasts had been done in such a subtle way that it didn’t leave a single trace. It didn’t matter how anyone tried to examine the spirit beasts, they wouldn’t find anything strange about them.
It was only with something that was especially sensitive to dragon aura like Gramr that Lin Fan was even able to find traces of this.
Since there was nothing that he was able to find from the spirit beasts, Lin Fan chose to follow a different angle.
It wasn’t as if one could just alter the spirit beasts with their hands alone, there had to be something that was used to do this.
Which was why Lin Fan started searching the hut.
If there was a place to hide the things used to change these spirit beasts, it would be this hut.
It was just that it didn’t seem like there was any place to hide these things here.
To begin with, it wasn’t as if this hut was that big.
It was a small hut that was just the right size for one or two people to live in, so it wasn’t as if there was any place to hide things.
If it wasn’t for the Ten Kings controlling their size and shrinking down, then they certainly wouldn’t have been able to fit inside of this hut.
So it seemed like there wasn’t anything to find.
That was until Lin Fan noticed that there was something strange by the fire.
This hut had a working fireplace, which might even be considered one of the few luxuries of this place. But if they built this hut to be this small in the first place, was there really a reason for them to have this luxury?
The only real explanation for this was that there was something hidden here.
When he used his spiritual sense, he wasn’t able to find a single thing.
However, the fact that he wasn’t able to find a single thing proved that this was indeed the right trail.
After all, the thing that was blocking his spiritual sense was similar to the thing outside that blocked spiritual sense. For them to go this far just to protect this hut, it meant that there was something that was hiding here.
"I can sense some kind of mechanism here."
Xiao Mu was the one that actually found what Lin Fan was looking for.
They had been curious about what he had been doing when they saw him acting this way, so they came over to see what he was looking for. But when they found that there was nothing there, they started looking more closely.
Ye Qing Huan trusted Lin Fan and Xiao Mu trusted Ye Qing Huan.
After finding the mechanism, Xiao Mu didn’t hesitate to press it.
It was as if Xiao Mu didn’t even worry about the fact that there might have been some kind of trap that was linked to this mechanism. The only thing that Xiao Mu cared about was seeing what was behind it.
In the end, there wasn’t anything that was actually there.
It just opened up a hole in the ground for them to jump down into.
This hole in the ground was completely dark, so they couldn’t see what was there. This was a kind of special darkness that contained special dark elemental energy, which was why they just couldn’t see through it at all.
So after a moment of silence, they still went down to see what was down there.
"Click."
This sound rang out as soon as they landed, but that wasn’t the only thing that happened.
Along with this sound, there were lights that suddenly turned on and filled this place with light. This was light that came from the ceiling above them, but there wasn’t anything other than a circle that was there.
With this light, they were able to see that there were some strange things that filled this place.
"What are these?" Ye Qing Huan asked in a confused voice.
However, neither Lin Fan or Xiao Mu were that surprised.
Xiao Mu had access to the Dao Sect’s database, so it already knew what these things were. At the same time, Xiao Mu was built with similar technology, so it wasn’t surprising to see these things here.
Lin Fan had his experience from both his past life and the people of the technologically advanced continent to draw on.
Though it would be a lie to say that there wasn’t a small part of him that was surprised to see this. After all, in his past life, these kinds of things would be considered science fiction.
But now that these things were in front of him, it wasn’t as if he could deny their existence.
"These are the things that were used to modify the spirit beasts that live in this place." Lin Fan said to Ye Qing Huan’s surprise.
Ye Qing Huan looked at Lin Fan with a strange look when she heard this, but she didn’t say anything else as she turned back to look at the large glass tubes that were in front of them.
She could see from the look on Lin Fan’s face that he didn’t want to talk about this.
At the same time, it was clear that he was focused on these things as well.
She would wait to see what he would be able to find out about these things.
After a long silence, Lin Fan finally moved forward to take a closer look at the large glass tubes. He walked all around them and looked at the various things that were connected to the tubes.
But at the same time, there was this bitter feeling that filled him.
It wasn’t as if he was some kind of engineer in the first place, so there was only so much that he was able to infer from observing these tubes. Even if he could pick up a few things with the bit of knowledge that he had, he wouldn’t be able to figure out everything.
At the same time, it didn’t seem like the Appraisal Eyes were going to give him any information.
The only information that the Appraisal Eyes gave him was just general knowledge or too specific knowledge, none of which actually helped him understand what this glass tube was.
The only thing that he was able to understand was that this glass tube was used to hold something.
"So they’re fed from this and that maintains the space inside of the tube." Xiao Mu muttered out loud, which brought Lin Fan back to his senses.
Lin Fan turned to look at Xiao Mu and from the way that it looked at the tube, it was clear that Xiao Mu learned far more than he did.
So he asked, "This isn’t the entire setup, is it?"
Xiao Mu didn’t answer at first as it continued observing the glass tubes and the machines that were here.
After another moment of silence, Xiao Mu said, "This is just to contain and observe. There are some things here set up for emergencies, but it isn’t as if they would be able to do anything big here."
Lin Fan nodded as if he understood, but really he couldn’t see the same things that Xiao Mu was seeing.
However, Xiao Mu’s words did prove one thing for him.
This equipment wasn’t used for the main modifications that were made, at best it was just used to help with a few touch ups. Which meant that the main facility that was used to modify spirit beasts was in a completely different place.
Though Lin Fan had already expected this, there was a part of him that was a bit disappointed by this.
But then again, it didn’t make sense to keep that kind of equipment in a place like this.
That kind of equipment would take all kinds of different things to power, so it wasn’t as if it would be in a small place like this.
This space was bigger than the hut above it, but it was still considered a small space when it came to research space. So it wasn’t as if this place was big enough to actually perform those experiments in.
"Even if I already knew that the Dao Sect had access to technology like this, it really is hard to believe what kind of things they’re doing with this technology. This kind of thing really seems like it doesn’t belong in this world..." Lin Fan thought to himself as he stared at the large glass tubes a bit longer.
But in the end, since there was nothing here...
"Let’s go back up. There’s nothing left to see here."
Xiao Mu didn’t seem to think the same at first as it continued looking over the tubes, but eventually it seemed like Xiao Mu lost interest. It was clear that Xiao Mu had come to the same conclusion as Lin Fan that this wasn’t the place where they kept their experiments.
As for Ye Qing Huan, she naturally had nothing to say since she didn’t understand any of this. But it wasn’t as if she wasn’t interested in anything that was here.
Just like with Lin Fan, they were both thinking about how to take this back when they left this place.
