It was at this point that Ye Qing Huan suddenly started showing signs of exertion.
It seemed like she was concentrating on what she was doing to the amalgamation with the expression that appeared on her face.
Before this, she didn’t seem to struggle at all while dealing with it. But all of a sudden, it seemed like something had happened.
Lin Fan was about to take a step forward to see what was going on and if he could help her, but then he saw what was happening.
From one of the tears, there was this thing that started to form.
It wasn’t as if it was just a part of amalgamation that was being ripped out from it, it seemed like this was something that had an actual form.
"It’s one of the disciple’s ghosts." Lin Fan muttered under his breath.
It was an actual ghost of one of the disciples and it was most likely something that the amalgamation had previously absorbed.
It had been turned into a part of the amalgamation, but Ye Qing Huan had actually been able to rip it away from it. It seemed like she was restoring it to its original form with how it was being torn away.
Once it was completely torn away, it seemed like this ghost was able to regain its consciousness.
As soon as the ghost regained its consciousness, the first thing that it did was look at the amalgamation with a look of terror. Then the second thing that it did was turn and run away as fast as possible.
It didn’t even seem like this ghost spared any time to look back as it just wanted to leave this place as soon as possible.
This wasn’t the only ghost that was ripped out of the amalgamation.
It didn’t take long for more and more ghosts to be ripped out of the tears that had appeared.
The way that it happened, it was as if Ye Qing Huan wouldn’t be satisfied unless she ripped this thing to pieces.
But it wasn’t as if it was a bad thing that this amalgamation was ripped apart.
Every piece that Ye Qing Huan ripped out was another ghost that was separated from the mass.
To a certain extent, it was actually amazing that they had been able to remain in one piece inside of this amalgamation all this time. It certainly wouldn’t have been a short period of being trapped inside of this thing.
For them to have kept their mentality all this time really was a testament to the sect that they came from.
"As expected of Dao Sect disciples..." Lin Fan couldn’t help muttering to himself as he watched all of this happen.
In the end, the large amalgamation became a tiny mass of yin energy.
Ye Qing Huan looked a bit tired, but she was satisfied with what she had done with this amalgamation. It seemed like she had already ripped out all of the ones that she could save.
She had already ripped out the wraiths that had been absorbed by the amalgamation as well.
"Are you going to destroy this thing?" Lin Fan came forward and asked this question.
Ye Qing Huan didn’t respond, but she did show what she was thinking from the look on her face.
From that trace of hesitation that she had, Lin Fan knew that she didn’t want to destroy this thing completely.
Even with his meager abilities, he was able to tell that this thing wasn’t that simple.
This thing was considered the core of the amalgamation from earlier, but that didn’t mean that it was some kind of abomination.
Without that thick curtain of yin qi blocking it, Lin Fan could tell that this was a mass that was created from several ghosts that came together.
The reason that they were able to come together and form this amalgamation to begin with was the powerful grudge that they held towards their death. It was a grudge that was basically emanating from them with how strong it was.
Of course, one could understand why they would feel this way.
They were supposed to be the shining stars of the Dao Sect, the strongest sect in the world. However, they had gotten caught up in the disaster of the Dao Sect and had lost their lives in the end.
It would have been strange if they could actually accept their deaths.
"These children are pitiful."
When this voice rang out, both Lin Fan and Ye Qing Huan immediately turned in that direction with narrowed eyes.
"Why have you been hiding yourself this entire time? You’re the one in charge of this place, right?" Lin Fan slowly asked this question.
The one that had appeared was an old man, but he wasn’t just any old man.
This was clearly a soul fragment just like the others that had appeared in front of them previously. The only difference was that this old man looked very faint, as if he was about to disappear at any moment.
It was obvious that this old man just simply wasn’t on the same level as the other elders that had appeared.
For him to appear in this place, he was most likely a different kind of elder.
He was most likely an outer elder that was in charge of taking care of the dorms and the disciples. He wasn’t a highly ranked elder, he was just someone that was higher than the disciples that took care of this place.
But in terms of power, he was certainly lacking compared to the elders that took care of entire halls.
"With how things developed, how could I show myself?" The old man said without any shame at all.
His words were correct, but the tone that he said it in...
Regardless of how he said it, it didn’t matter.
The only thing that mattered were the next words that came from the old man.
"They were simple kids that just wanted to see the world, but their hopes and dreams were cut short. This was enough to develop into this kind of grudge, but I’m sure that someone like you will be able to help them fulfill that wish."
The words that came from him made things sound simple, but what he was asking was indeed quite a lot.
After all, it struck at the point that caused Ye Qing Huan to hesitate in the first place.
It wasn’t as if Ye Qing Huan wasn’t able to see what they were hoping for and it wasn’t as if she couldn’t separate them from the mass that they had formed. It was just that she was worried that they would be dangerous after she separated them from the mass.
They had lost themselves to this power before, so it wasn’t as if they wouldn’t lose themselves to this power once more. It was possible that they would completely lose control of themselves next time.
So it was best to take care of them permanently.
But in the end, the words of the old man changed their minds in the end.
"They’re pitiful children that were just caught up in the disaster of the Dao Sect. I don’t know who you are, but I can feel familiar things coming from you. Since these things have been entrusted to you, then I know that you’re not bad people. All I can do is sincerely ask you to take these children away."
Lin Fan and Ye Qing Huan looked at each other for a bit before suddenly giving sighs at the same time.
It was clear that they were thinking the same thing when the old man said this, but it wasn’t as if they could do anything about it now. Since the old man was going this far, it really was putting them in a tough spot.
With a wave of her hand, she ripped apart the amalgamation that was left behind and they turned into several figures. At this point, Ye Qing Huan didn’t even have to use the same trick that she used previously to separate them.
They had been weakened to the point where she was able to do this with just her spiritual energy alone.
However, none of them seemed like they had recovered.
Even though they had taken human form once more, there was this dark energy that was wrapped around them. This dark energy had the same sensation that the amalgamation gave off previously, which meant that the danger hadn’t been solved yet.
It was just that none of these ghosts were able to move.
It was as if there was something that was restraining them, even though it was obvious that they wanted to attack the things that were around them. This was a kind of natural instinct to attack everything that was around them, as if they wanted to keep devouring.
But that was stopped when Ye Qing Huan waved her hand at them once more and swept away that dark energy that was around them.
Only it seemed like this wasn’t a permanent cure.
She was able to scatter the dark energy, but there was more dark energy that was coming from them. These were small bits of dark energy that were condensing around these ghosts, like mold that was growing from them.
Ye Qing Huan would be able to purify them without a problem, but that wouldn’t solve the base of their problems and it was something that would continue for a long time.
So it wasn’t as if this was the solution to the problem.
"We’ll have to seal them for now until we can bring them away from here."
