Chapter 99: Chapter 92: 1st Divine Technique Entry

Dennis plopped down onto the ground, gasping heavily for air. He had suffered several fractures, and his entire forearm was swollen and bruised purple.

Instead of tending to his wounds, however, he stood back up and walked over to where the Wind Elemental Lord had fallen. Crouching down, he dug through the shattered remains and fished out a few items.

Chen Shang walked over as well, activating his Eye of True Sight. "Why did this thing go berserk? How did you piss it off?"

Dennis offered a bitter smile. "Who knows? We barely exchanged a few words when I arrived before it nearly attacked. The guy was acting like a total lunatic. If I had known, I would have just channeled the High Tower’s energy to blast it into oblivion!"

The Wind Elemental Lord’s corpse was rapidly dissipating. If a pure Energy Body creature like this wasn’t preserved immediately after death, its energy would scatter back into the world, vanishing without a trace in mere minutes.

The two divided the labor. Chen Shang was responsible for cutting out the Energy Crystals that were still intact, while Dennis gathered the scattered fragments into a specialized storage canister. In less than fifteen minutes, the entire corpse had been completely dismantled.

Finally, Dennis plucked a fist-sized, pale cyan orb from the pile of debris. This was the Wind Core—the Energy Core of the Wind Elemental Lord. He cupped the Wind Core in his hands, turning it over and over. His expression shifted from exhaustion to grave solemnity.

Chen Shang also took a look using his Eye of True Sight. Deep inside the Wind Core was an incredibly faint, dark red glow. It wasn’t naturally formed; it had been artificially implanted. It looked like a needle... or perhaps a parasite. It was some sort of control mechanism.

Both of their gazes landed simultaneously on that dark red point of light. Dennis looked up, meeting Chen Shang’s eyes.

"Chen, I really appreciate you stepping in to help. But this loot is directly tied to my mission, so I can’t let you have it. I’ll compensate you based on the market price."

Chen Shang nodded. "Alright."

Dennis used his Crystal Plate to transfer three thousand Wizard Coins to Chen Shang, covering half the value of the spoils. He carefully stowed the Wind Core into a specialized container, then stood up and extended a hand toward Chen Shang.

"Thanks again for your help this time. Let’s add each other as friends. Once the mission is finalized, I’ll give you a cut of the reward."

Chen Shang accepted the request, watching him hurry off with the metal box and disappear around the bend of the canyon.

Wind Eye Canyon fell quiet once more. The wind was still blowing, but it was much weaker than before. With the Wind Elemental Lord dead, the concentration of the Wind Element in the area was likely steadily dropping.

Chen Shang continued deeper along the bottom of the basin until he finally reached the edge of the chasm. Its rim was incredibly smooth, carved out by the tireless, relentless cutting of the wind over millions of years.

The fissure was so narrow that only a single person could squeeze through sideways. Wind surged out from the gap, carrying a sensation Chen Shang had never felt before. It wasn’t violent; it was pure.

A film of water formed from One-Element Heavy Water clung tightly to his skin. As Wind Blades battered against it, they produced a rapid volley of CLINK, CLINK, CLINK sounds.

Chen Shang squeezed his way inside for a dozen steps. The rock walls overhead grew higher, and the ground beneath his feet became exceedingly slippery. Pulling out his Space Book, he summoned a Da Wa and sent it ahead to scout the path.

The moment Da Wa hit the ground, its body grew to three meters tall. Wooden textures crawled all over its arms, and a root system extended from the soles of its feet to anchor into the crevices of the stone slabs. However, the wind was simply too strong. The creature was blown from side to side, its feet plowing two shallow trenches into the stone slabs as it painstakingly dragged itself forward, step by step.

Chen Shang followed close behind. The water film of One-Element Heavy Water thinned and thickened under the wind’s tearing force, causing his Spiritual Power to drain at an alarming rate. Every few hundred steps, he had to sit down for Meditation or drink a potion to replenish himself.

An unknown amount of time passed before the chasm suddenly vanished, giving way to a massive underground cavern. Because the space was so vast, the winds on the outer edges of the cavern had actually weakened. Chen Shang activated his Eye of Truth and looked down.

Something was glowing in the center of the cavern—a soft, pale cyan light that resembled a cluster of solidified auroras. The light rippled outward from the center, illuminating the entire cavern so that it looked like an overturned bowl.

The pale cyan light source wasn’t stationary. It was slowly rotating, and with every revolution, a visible ring of wind expanded outward from its core. As it brushed past Chen Shang, it whipped the water film of One-Element Heavy Water into a series of ripples.

Chen Shang began walking toward it. With every step he took, the wind grew stronger, and the One-Element Heavy Water film grew thinner. The gale plastered his robes tightly against his body, and his boots let out a harsh SCRAPE against the stone slabs.

By the time he reached the light source, he had to hunch over and plunge his Magic Staff into the ground just to stabilize his center of gravity. He could finally see the light clearly. It was a Crystal Core hovering in mid-air.

It was only the size of a fist, irregular in shape and devoid of any polishing marks. It was purely the natural, crystallized product of the Wind Element reacting under an extremely high concentration. Countless fine micro-fractures covered the surface of the Crystal Core. Pale cyan light seeped out from these cracks, pulsing like a heartbeat in alternating flashes of bright and dim.

Around the Crystal Core, the Wind Element was so dense it had become visible to the naked eye. Pale cyan threads of light drifted out from the core, spiraling and intertwining in the air before being blown outward, only to be instantly replaced by new threads in an endless cycle.

Chen Shang reached out. The moment his fingertips brushed the surface of the Crystal Core, his interface violently shuddered.

He chose to extract. Two streams of blue light surged into him. The interface didn’t stop; another prompt immediately popped up.

[Mythical Resonance conditions met!]

[Eye of True Sight (Purple) + Wind Elemental Eye (Blue) can be fused. Fuse?]
